US Attorney General: No Evidence of Widespread Election Fraud | Free press

Washington (dpa) – According to department head William Barr, the United States Department of Justice has so far found no evidence of the electoral fraud that President Donald Trump widely alleges.

“To date, we have not seen any form of fraud that could have led to a different election outcome,” Barr told AP news agency Tuesday. Barr’s statements caused a sensation, as he is usually extremely loyal to Trump. Now he contradicted him directly.

The incumbent Republican Party has still not admitted defeat and continues to claim that its Democratic challenger Joe Biden won the November 3 election over mass fraud. Trump has not provided reliable evidence. He tries to dispute the election results with a wave of lawsuits. However, US courts have already thwarted numerous lawsuits. Biden will be sworn in as president on January 20.

Trump’s lawyers have rejected Barr’s report. Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis announced on Tuesday that there was “no indication” of an investigation by the Justice Department. “We have collected extensive evidence of illegal voting in at least six states.”

The ministry has not revised this evidence and testimony, it said. Barr appears to have arrived at his decision “without any knowledge or investigation of the substantial irregularities and evidence of systematic fraud”. Barr told AP that prosecutors and federal FBI investigators were investigating complaints related to the election. But they wouldn’t have found any evidence that would have changed the outcome.

Barr is a close ally of Trump. He was in the White House for more than two hours on Tuesday, local correspondents reported. According to a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice, the appointment took longer than planned. The news portal “Axios” reported that Barr was meeting with Trump’s Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and other government officials.

About three weeks ago, Barr had authorized prosecutors to investigate allegations of election fraud before the final results were released. Such proceedings are likely to commence when there are “clear and seemingly credible allegations of irregularities” that could have affected election results in a state, Barr’s letter to prosecutors said at the time. The states must report their certified final results to Washington by next Tuesday.

As usual in the US, Biden was declared the winner of the November 3 election by major media. According to a report from the “Politico” news portal, Trump told members of the Republican Party at a Christmas party at the White House on Tuesday that he wanted to run for president again in 2024. According to the report, he said, “It’s been a whopping four years. We try to make it four more years. If not, we’ll see you in four years. So far, Trump has not wanted to publicly respond to speculation about a possible candidacy in 2024.

Trump made a new attempt on Tuesday in the important state of Wisconsin to challenge the result with a lawsuit. He also tried to put pressure on Republican governors in Georgia and Arizona, who have now confirmed the election results there and Biden’s victory.

In the face of ongoing doubts about the election results and the threat of violence against those involved in the election, a senior election official in Georgia made a strong appeal to Trump. “Show your greatness, stop it. Come in, tell your supporters, don’t be violent. Stop threatening. None of that is correct, it is not American, ”said Gabriel Sterling on Tuesday (local time) in Atlanta in a press statement.

Gabriel did not hide his anger, saying to Trump: “You have the right to go to court. What you cannot do (…) is to stop persuading people to commit acts of violence. Sterling warned, “Someone will be hurt. Someone will be shot. Someone will be murdered.” Since Trump’s narrow defeat, the president and his confidants have published those responsible for the Georgia elections. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger – the chief election overseer – claims death threats.

State results are key to winning a US presidential election. The president is not elected directly by the people, but by voters who vote based on the results in their state. According to calculations by the American media, Democrat Biden has secured 306 voters at Wal and 270 are needed to become president. Trump has 232 voters.

According to his former campaigner, Trump could have won the election with a “landslide victory” had he shown empathy in the corona pandemic. “I think people were scared,” Brad Parscale told Fox News. It was a mistake to push for the reopening of the economy while the people were afraid. Parscale suggested that many potential voters wanted to see a sensitive president, which he said to Trump. “He chose a different way.”
