“The Unforgivable” marks Sandra Bullock’s return to Netflix – as a former inmate
The story is about a former prisoner who tries to fit back into a society where she is despised for her past.
Sandra Bullock is also the producer of the film.
Sandra Bullock starred in one of Netflix’s biggest hits: Bird Box. The film was so successful that it became one of the most watched films of all time on the platform. Now the actress is back with the streaming giant for a new project. This time to interpret a very real story.
“The Unforgivable” is based on the British miniseries “Unforgiven” from 2009. Sandra Bullock, who will play Ruth Slater in this film, does not have an easy life, although she does not have to flee from creepy and murderous creatures.
“Ruth Slater is released from prison after serving a prison sentence for a serious crime and rejoins a society that refuses to forgive her past. Given the judgments of the website that once called her home, her only hope is to find the younger sister she left behind, ”the Netflix synopsis read. The film will also star Viola Davis, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Richard Thomas, Linda Emond, Aisling Franciosi and Rob Morgan.
“My character was jailed for a heinous crime for 20 years and was eventually released,” said Bullock, who is also the project’s producer, on the Entertainment Weekly website. He adds, “There are many people whose lives have been compromised by the crime they committed and there is much hatred, anger, bitterness and pain associated with their release.”
The reason she committed the crime is, explains Sandra Bullock, one of the sore points of the story. “It’s the secret of a murder in a drama with a very complex character,” reveals the actress and producer.
Nora Fingscheidt was responsible for the implementation and told the same page that “the recordings began in February 2020 and then, as we all know, things changed globally in mid-March.”
Despite the delays, the film opens later this year: November 24th in some theaters and December 10th on Netflix.
It’s not the first time the streaming platform has tackled life after prison, especially that of women. In “Orange is The New Black,” we followed former inmates’ difficulties finding a job and being accepted by society – often returning to prison where life seemed more welcoming than life in freedom.
