The erotic film about nuns that promises to shock the Cannes festival
“Benedetta” is Paul Verhoeven’s latest production. It’s a thriller with Charlotte Rampling.
Premiere in July at the French festival.
Five years after the production of “Ela”, for which Isabelle Huppert won the Oscar for best actress, the experienced Dutch director Paul Verhoeven is back with a new film. “Benedetta” will debut at the prestigious Cannes Festival in July, where it is in competition, and is described by nuns as an erotic thriller.
The official trailer was released this Wednesday, May 5th. The story takes place in an Italian monastery in the 15th century, in which a character played by Charlotte Rampling tries to solve a riddle involving a strange nun (who shakes the entire group).
Benedetta Carlini (Virginie Efira) is a young nun who joins the monastery. She soon developed the ability to work miracles, despite the fact that her effects on her new religious family are sexually stressed as she is plagued by erotic visions that will lead her to concern herself with another nun.
Paul Verhoeven, 82, is the filmmaker who has made films such as “Fatal Instinct”, “Robocop”, “The Transparent Man”, “Soldiers of the Universe”, “Showgirls” and “Desafio Total”. amongst other things.
“Benedetta” is one of the already confirmed films that will debut at this year’s Cannes festival. Among them is “The French Dispatch,” Wes Anderson’s next production with a luxury cast; and the musical “Annette”, which will bring together Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.
