Berlin (dpa) – What will happen with the holiday this year? In times of the pandemic, many people in Germany are even more concerned about this than usual.

Falling new corona infection figures certainly give hope for a holiday in Germany. For example, cautious tourist openings are in sight or have already begun in the coastal states and in the south. Elsewhere, on the other hand, it will probably take a while. A selection:

SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN: In the northernmost state, tourism started on April 19, albeit with a regional limit. It started with strict guidelines in the Schleiregion around Schleswig and Kappeln and in Eckernförde. North Frisia, including Sylt and the other islands, began on May 1. Büsum in Dithmarschen as a model project starts on May 10, the Lübeck Bay model project on May 8. A condition for the pilot projects is that corona incidents are stable below the limit of 100 new infections per week and 100,000 inhabitants. Guests must come up with a new negative test and repeat it at the destination in a few days. And soon the entire state will follow suit: Starting May 17, those vaccinated against the coronavirus, those who have recovered and those who have been tested, will be allowed to stay under strict guidelines across the country under strict guidelines, such as Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU ) announced on Wednesday.

LOWER SAXONES: Starting next week, there will be an opening of tourism in areas with a seven-day incidence of less than 100 – but this should be limited to residents of Lower Saxony until at least the end of May. You can then check in again at hotels, holiday apartments and camping sites, this is accompanied by a negative rapid test or a vaccination certificate. A government spokeswoman said in Hanover on Wednesday to see how the two-week easing move would prove effective. A further opening of tourism to guests outside the country could then be included in the next Corona ordinance, which will take effect from May 31.

MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN: Since Wednesday, fully vaccinated people from other federal states are allowed to come as day tourists or visit their second home. Otherwise, the lockdown will last until May 22, as Secretary of Health Harry Glawe (CDU) said. A week in advance, the cabinet wanted to discuss how things would proceed afterwards. The target is an incidence of around 50, only then should there be model regions like Schleswig-Holstein as a first step for tourism and gastronomy, to test what has proven itself.

BAVARIA: Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) announced on Tuesday that holidays in the Free State at the start of the Pentecost holiday on May 21 would be allowed again in regions with a low corona infection. In districts and independent cities with a stable seven-day incidence of less than 100, hotels, holiday apartments and camping sites must be reopened.

HAMBURG: Things look different in the Hanseatic city: in Hamburg, tourism is still prohibited indefinitely. The red-green Senate led by Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) is considered very strict when it comes to implementing the corona restrictions. Therefore holiday apartments and hotels are still closed to private travelers.

BERLIN: Even in the federal capital, it has not yet been announced that the hotels will open soon if the incidence is below 100. From the point of view of the mayor of administration Michael Müller (SPD), a national agreement on holiday opportunities during the summer holidays is indispensable. If all goes well, tourist offers in Berlin should also play a role in summer. At Pentecost – just like in Brandenburg – the idea of opening the dining area outside is considered.

BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG: Facing a slightly declining seven-day incidence, the state government has cautiously raised hopes that beer gardens and hotel areas will be open in less polluted regions during the Whitsun holidays. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) said he could envision this being possible at Pentecost in cities and districts where corona infections were low on a number of consecutive days and emphasized the lower risk of infection outside the home. Conceivable relaxations are then accompanied by an associated testing strategy and the presentation of the vaccination card for fully vaccinated persons.
