Risk area category will be removed | free press

Is a country classified as a risk area? Travelers should not ask themselves these questions in the future. Because the federal government apparently wants to delete this category.

Berlin (dpa) – The federal government wants to change the corona requirements for travel and waive the previous designation of simple risk areas. The German news agency learned this from government circles in Berlin on Tuesday.

Then there would only be two categories of areas with a certain corona burden: high incidence and virus variant areas, as it was also called. The new entry regulation should come into effect at the beginning of August. Coordination is currently taking place between the ministries and with the federal states. The Funke media group papers first reported on it, citing a draft bill from the Federal Ministry of Health.

The current entry scheme expires at the end of July. It is discussed that any person coming from abroad should be vaccinated, rehabilitated or tested and show evidence on request. So far, this only applies to flights.

It should also apply that unvaccinated people must be quarantined for ten days after entering an area with a high incidence and that a free test should be possible after five days. In the case of virus variant areas, it should not be possible to shorten the quarantine.

The Ministry of Health also promoted vaccinations for travel. “Travel becomes easier with vaccinations,” said a spokesperson. “You save yourself testing when you enter the country. And as a rule, vaccinated people do not need to be quarantined.”
