Projection Mapping is a technology that uses a flatbed scanner and projection displays in combination to create a flat surface on which the image is projected. It is a great way of creating high quality digital projection displays for commercial use, however in this article I will show you how to make a projection mapping for your own digital projectors and then sell it to your clients as an add-on service. Here’s what you need to do:

First, you must make sure that your projector’s all support the HDCP specification for Blu-ray. This spec states that all content on your display must be encoded with the same compression ratio as Blu-ray disc. Unfortunately most projection displays don’t support this specification and you must map all your projectors so that they all use the same compression ratio. You can do this by testing each projector on its own using the Lumenose test lab. Once you have done this then you can convert your files into HDCP format and then apply to all your projectors so that they all have the same ability to display the file.

The conversion process gives the final result of having bright and crisp images on your projectors regardless of their original brightness and contrast levels. To ensure that you projectors retain their original brightness and contrast, you should make sure that there is no visible banding or other inconsistencies in the display when viewing them from different distances. The best way to achieve this is to use projector calibration software such as the Lumenose meter from Digital Video Devices and calibrated Projection Mapping projectors from iorate.
