It has an Oscar nomination.

The grand finale of the Eurovision is scheduled for Sunday, May 22nd. Immediately after the winner of this edition is announced, the RTP1 grid remains dedicated to the theme with the film “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of the Fire Saga”. Will Ferrell starred in the production, directed by David Dobkin, and was even nominated for an Oscar.

The film premiered on Netflix in the summer of 2020 and can be viewed on an open channel on Sunday the 22nd from 11:15 p.m. Will Ferrell not only writes the script, but also plays one of the protagonists with Andrew Steele. When he invited David Dobkin from Os Fura-Casamentos to direct the project, Dobkin didn’t even know Eurovision, but said that he accepted on one condition: the film had to be a love letter about the competition, not a parody.

In this story, Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams play Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir, two Icelandic musicians who want to reach Eurovision and then hit it. However, they will face many obstacles along the way – first they have to convince the Icelanders, then the Eurovision audience.

The father of Ferrell’s character is played by Pierce Brosnan – someone who doubts his son’s abilities and just wants to impress him. The cast includes Dan Stevens, Demi Lovato, Natasia Demetriou, Jamie Demetriou, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Tómas Lemarquis, Graham Norton and Jon Kortajarena.

Salvador Sobral also has a small stake in this film. “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of the Fire Saga”. With “Husavik” he was nominated for an Oscar for best original music.
