Mayor Palmer of Tübingen accuses politics of lack of ideas | Free press

Despite the low incidence rates, the federal emergency brake also puts an end to the pilot project in Tübingen. OB Palmer speaks out against federal politics.

Berlin (dpa) – Mayor Boris Palmer of Tübingen has accused politicians of lack of ideas in the fight against the corona pandemic. “We can think of nothing else than bans and lockdowns”, said the Green politician on Friday in RTL / ntv “early start”.

“We could have gotten through the crisis much better with digitization, with vaccinations, with testing, with the protection of risk groups.”

The city of Tübingen in Baden-Württemberg has caused a stir over the past six weeks with its modeling project. Residents could go to theaters, shops or museums with daily corona tests. In the city itself, the seven-day incidence was last below 100, in the rural district it was significantly higher. “We have been open for six weeks now and our numbers are better than in the emergency brake. You should ask, why isn’t everyone doing it like us? Palmer said.

The project is now coming to an end due to the closed but sharply criticized Corona emergency brake and the high number of infections in the entire neighborhood. “A lot of people in town are now disappointed, too,” Palmer said.
