Karliczek for compulsory attendance with exceptions after the holidays | free press

Education Minister Karliczek argues – with exceptions – for compulsory attendance in the classroom after the holidays. Before school starts, all students must be tested once.

Berlin (dpa) – Federal Education Minister Anja Karliczek has spoken out in favor of making school children mandatory to attend class after the holidays, despite Corona.

“In my opinion, as a rule, the mandatory attendance should apply again,” says the CDU politician of the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”. “Exceptions for previously ill and particularly vulnerable children and young people should be possible.” There will be preconditions under which safe education can be guaranteed.

All students take the test before school starts

According to her, all students should be tested once before school starts after the holidays. “After that, regular tests have to take place, the frequency of which depends on the occurrence of the infection. We must afford this as the first and most important measure of increasing incidents,” says Karliczek. Again, she did not rule out a possible corona-related school closure. “In a situation like a pandemic, you can never guarantee or exclude anything. We don’t know which variants will come. But all those responsible can in any case prepare in a much more targeted way ».

She is “convinced that schools can in principle remain open this autumn”. “After the holidays, we now have a completely different starting position. We have a rising vaccination rate, a good testing structure,” said the Minister of Education.
