30 years after one of the biggest cinema premieres, the universe of “The Silence of the Lambs” remains a true phenomenon of pop culture. The film, with Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster as protagonists, was a huge global success – both commercially and critically. It was the third production to ever win the five best Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress).
The project had several sequels and prequels, but none specifically focused on the character Clarice M. Starling, the young FBI detective who needed Hannibal Hecter’s manipulative help to get another serial killer. On this basis, the new FOX series was born – called “Clarice” and is a spin-off that follows the agent’s return to police work in 1993, a year after the events of “The Silence of the Lambs”.
The production will premiere on April 19 at 10:15 p.m. and in a double episode on the FOX channel. In this new thriller, the Perception Agency must continue its work and solve several new serial killers and sexual predators cases in Washington, USA.
In all episodes, Clarice (Rebecca Breeds) tries to solve a different case, although there is a more continuous investigation that lasts about an hour for the season of ten chapters. The series seeks to address the complexities of their minds, the result of a challenging childhood full of secrets that have haunted them all their lives.
However, the protagonist is still trying to overcome the case of Hannibal Lecter, who plagued her on a personal level and is suffering from a certain type of post-traumatic stress. Although Lecter does not appear in this production, the story includes several recreations of cult scenes related to the character.
In the first episode of the season, a year after rescuing Catherine Martin (Marnee Carpenter) from the horrors of serial killer Buffalo Bill’s basement, Clarice is removed from the behavioral research laboratory to investigate a number of new brutal murders FBI violent criminals, formed by Catherine’s mother, Attorney General Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson).
Haunted by her past, Clarice works once again to identify these deaths and prove her ability to colleagues who do not trust her work. The production also explores exactly what it’s like to be a woman dealing with horrific and macabre crimes in a ’90s world that is still heavily male dominated.
The rest of the cast includes Raoul Bhaneja, Maya McNair, Simon Northwood, Caitlin Stryker, Neil Whitely, Bola Aiyeola, Erica Anderson, Lara Binamé and Michael Cudlitz. “Clarice” is produced by Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet, Elizabeth Klaviter and Heather Kadin. The series is produced by MGM Television and CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout.
