Festival with thousands of participants in Barcelona | free press

In Spain, the corona figures are currently rising again, but the hunger for music and culture is apparently immense. In any case, thousands of mainly young people celebrated the Cruilla Festival.

Barcelona (dpa) – In Barcelona this year, despite the surge in Corona numbers, thousands, mostly young people, gathered for the Cruilla music festival.

Up to 18,000 people a day took part in the open-air event from Thursday to Saturday, “La Vanguardia” newspaper and Europa Press news agency reported.

A maximum of 25,000 per day were allowed. Groups like Two Door Cinema, Club, Manel, Zoo, Amaral, La Casa Azul and Sopa de Cabra performed.

All participants had to undergo a rapid corona test just before entering. 180 test places were available for this. About 200 participants tested positive. There was a ban on drinking and eating directly in front of the stage, plus a mask requirement everywhere. Most enthusiastic spectators would have behaved very disciplined. “We don’t have to intervene, they follow the rules,” said “La Vanguardia” to one of the many volunteer stewards.

There was hardly any criticism of the mass event given the rapidly increasing number of infections among young people in Catalonia. The newspaper “ABC” wrote that it was “worrying” to see thousands of young people dancing and singing along in front of the stage without any distance and not always wearing masks. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within 14 days for 20-29 year olds in Catalonia is currently above 2,500.

The federal government announced on Friday that the whole of Spain, with the holiday islands of Mallorca and the Canary Islands, which are popular with Germans, will again be classified as a risk area from Sunday. In practice, not much has changed because a negative test is already mandatory for air travelers on their return.

However, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in Spain rose to 199 within seven days on Friday. From 200 over a longer period, Germany could declare the country an area with a high incidence. Then those who were not fully vaccinated would have to remain in quarantine for at least five days upon return to Germany.
