The first agreement between the federal government and the states concerns the retail trade – here a tiered procedure is planned.

Berlin (dpa) – The federal and state governments want to keep wholesale and retail trade open in the Corona crisis, but are setting tougher requirements for larger companies.

As the German news agency learned from various participants in the federal and national deliberations on Wednesday, there is an agreement on the retail trade. No decision had yet been taken on a general document. Earlier the newspaper “Bild” and the “Tagesspiegel” reported about it.

A step-by-step procedure is therefore planned for retail. In the future, it should apply that in small and medium-sized shops with a sales area of up to 800 square meters, there should be no more than one person per 10 square meters of sales area.

In larger stores with a total sales area of 801 square meters or more, such as department stores, the following is planned: up to an area of 800 square meters, there should be no more than one person per 10 square meters – in an area of more than 800 square meters meters, no more than one person per 20 square meters.

Prior to the deliberations, federal proposals had generated massive criticism, for example from the German trade association. According to a paper released Tuesday, the federal government wanted to allow only one customer per 25 square feet instead of the previous ten square feet of retail space.

In addition, the mask requirement is being expanded in wholesale and retail. In the future it will also apply to shops and parking lots. The population is also urged to do their Christmas shopping during the week if possible.
