Washington (AP) – Four months after the first coronavirus vaccination in the United States, more than half of all adults there received at least one vaccination dose, according to the CDC.

According to CDC statistics, 50.4 percent of adults – about 130 million people – had received at least one dose on Sunday. Almost every third adult is fully vaccinated. In the particularly vulnerable age group of 65 years and older, 81 percent have received a first dose, about two-thirds have been fully vaccinated.

The White House Coronavirus Task Force said it currently has an average of more than three million vaccinations a day. In total, nearly 210 million doses of coronavirus have been injected in the country of about 330 million inhabitants. More than 264 million cans have been delivered to date. The first dose of the vaccine in the US was given to a nurse in New York on December 14, 2020.

Most vaccinations in the US are made with the active ingredients of the American companies Moderna and Pfizer, the latter having developed the preparation together with its German partner Biontech. Vaccinations with the active ingredient from the US pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson are currently suspended after six cases of cerebral venous thrombosis have been registered in the US.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine only needs to be injected once to be fully effective; the other two drugs require two doses.
