Corona lockdown until February 14, stricter mask requirement | Free press

Chancellor Merkel and the prime ministers are in talks about further corona measures. A lockdown extension is decided. Closures of schools and childcare facilities and the issue of uniform exit restrictions are also under discussion.

Berlin (dpa) – Shortly before the new corona talks by the federal and state governments, indications of an extension of the lockdown to February 14 are increasing.

This date is stated in the motion for a resolution that the Chancellery was sent to the Länder at 12:00 noon after further preparatory discussions. The newspaper, which was available to the German news agency from various sources, was at 12:40 pm. The final decision on this will only be made in the afternoon by Prime Minister and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) – the start was scheduled for 2 p.m.

Further sweeping changes were also likely in these deliberations. The handling of school and daycare closures and the issue of uniform exit restrictions have been controversial until recently.

According to the draft, medical masks should be made compulsory on public transport and in shops – at least so-called surgical masks. However, there should be no obligation to wear protective masks according to the FFP2 standard.

In addition, the design could increase pressure on employers to allow more home offices. To that end, the Federal Department of Labor will issue a regulation, “according to which employers should allow employees to work from home whenever possible, provided the activities allow it,” the paper said. There have been a lot of discussions on the subject of home office lately.

In any case, until the end there were still differences of opinion between the countries in many areas – for example also about the question of exactly how to do things in schools and day-care centers. The paper contained many brackets on these and other topics – this meant that there was still a lot of need for discussion here.
