Bookstores have to close – but they can sell to the wicket
The measure is the same as the one that was in place last spring.
You can only sell to the wicket.
All cultural spaces must be closed from midnight on this Friday, January 15th. For the time being, the new detention center has the “horizon of a month”, as Prime Minister António described Coast.
There is one small exception, however. Bookstores can continue to exercise their activities. You have to close, but can sell to the wicket, says the agency Lusa quoted by the “Observer”. The measure is the same as the one that was in place last spring as the books were viewed as a basic need by the Minister of Culture.
Regarding the rest of the cultural sector, António Costa referred this Thursday the 14th to the announcement of a series of support measures. The new restriction should further weaken the book market, which was able to recover after the sharp decline at the beginning of the pandemic. Nevertheless, at the end of October, according to the GFK consultancy, there was a decline in sales of 15.8 percent compared to the previous year.
