Barack and Michelle Obama have a new project on Netflix
“Blackout” follows 6 different love stories that take place under very unique circumstances.
The Obamas will bring new projects to Netflix.
In 2018, Barack and Michelle Obama started an audiovisual production company. Under the name Higher Ground, the company signed a deal with Netflix that same year, for which it has already done some content, such as the documentary Becoming: A Minha História, which focuses on the wife of the former President of the United States Conditions. Now they have a new project for the streaming platform.
“Blackout” is a film and series at the same time and tells of six love stories that take place during a blackout on a hot summer night. Each was written by a different screenwriter: Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, and Nicola Yoon.
The news was released by The Hollywood Reporter magazine, revealing that the project focuses on the perspective of 12 black teenagers with six chances to create a new love. With the blackout, which will be one of the central points of the story, hidden truths will be revealed, loved ones will blossom and friendships will change, opening up a whole world of possibilities.
Blackout will have all sorts of couples and different stories: an ex-couple who has to walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn to get to a neighborhood party; two girls looking for a lost photo and discovering something else in the end; two boys are stuck in the subway and have to face their feelings; two best friends locked in a New York library trying to figure out if there is a future for both of them; a love triangle that invades a bus and tries to break that romance, and finally two strangers talking about the philosophy of identity and wondering if something can still happen between them.
In addition to “Becoming”, the producer already has projects on Netflix such as “An American Factory”, which even won an Oscar for best documentary in 2020, and the most recent “Fatherhood” with Kevin Hart, which is still at the top 10 of the most watched films on the Platform.
Higher Ground has also ventured into the podcast space, which has Renegades: Born in The USA, which joins Bruce Springsteen as President, and The Michelle Obama Podcast.
It remains to be seen when the audiovisual project hits Netflix.
