Almost 20 percent of the population in Germany has been vaccinated against the corona virus at least once. However, vaccination coverage varies significantly across states.

Berlin (dpa) – According to registration data, 18.5 percent of the population in Germany has been vaccinated against the coronavirus at least once. This is evident from the vaccination check that the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) carried out on April 16 (from 8 a.m.).

According to statistics, 6.4 percent of people have received the second injection and with it full vaccination protection. The vaccination quota varies considerably according to the federal state: in Bremen and Saarland, 21.6 percent and 20.9 percent respectively received the first dose, in Hesse at the bottom 16.7 percent. Four other states – North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia – should reach 20 percent soon. The RKI registered a total of 658,019 vaccinations on Thursday.

The vaccination campaign in Germany started at the end of last year. First it was the turn of the over-80s, residents of old people’s and nursing homes and medical staff. Chronically ill people with an increased risk of a serious and fatal course are preferred to vaccinate.
